There was a time when I consumed Green Tea like five times in a day. Why is that so? Because I thought it’ll help me lose plenty of fat in a short time. I was aware of the few risks, but the health benefits of these miraculous leaves outrank the risks.

Did you wonder where the heck I was in the past couple of weeks? If you’re a student and write blogs, my situation will undoubtedly connect you. So, I was preparing for my college exams. I, just like many other bloggers out there, work my fingers to the bone to keep the blog running, and growing and as a full-time student, it’s double the work. What I love the most about blogging is the flexibility it offers to manage the time, since I’m a boss myself.

There’s a misconception that blogging is a piece of cake to make money, lying on the couch and glued up with the laptop. Let me clarify that in the right way, IT’S PLENTY OF HARD WORK, and eventually, it’s so worth it. In this post, I’ll throw some light on the blogging life of a student to present a glimpse of the challenges and deadlines we cope with every day.

7:30 AM

‘Mom! You just broke my sweet dream!’ 

That’s what I hear every day in the morning. My 7-year-old is a Year 1 student who’s most grumpy in the morning since he’s returning to school after three months of Quarantine. All my effort goes to keep myself from yelling at him in the freaking cold weather outside, and so I learned to take the things smoothly and gently with him. 

I drop him at his school.

8:30 AM

I usually return home after facing the jam-packed roads during the School zone hours! If you ever visit Sydney, you’ll observe a freaking annoying traffic congestion every other day. The best tip to reach the destination on time is to leave home as early as possible.

8:45 AM

I sleep! Yes, there’s no surprise because I’m a Night Owl and not a morning person. Fact! I enjoy the peace of working in darkness since my concentration levels are the highest.

12:30 PM

Wakes up and completes the oral hygiene and grooming. A shower is a must to make the day fresh and glowy. My husband looks after my Toddler while I continue my skin-care routine (Blessed that he’s super-caring!). 

1:00 PM

We make our breakfast quite late since my husband works overnight. Usually, a Hard-boiled Egg, with two slices of Toasted Bread and a strong cup of White Tea, is enough to fill the entire day. We eat simple, and there’s a logic: We’re calorie-conscious of keeping our weight maintained throughout. 

1:30 PM

After completing the breakfast and afternoon Prayer comes the time to perform daily house chores. Tidying the room and the lounge is a must to keep oneself active (See my post here). 

Planning the dinner can become ridiculously tricky because deciding what to cook every day takes time and brainstorming. Here’s the simple trick I follow: I cook something that I haven’t made in the past couple of weeks. 

2:45 PM

Time for my son to pick from school. My Father-in-Law is a gentleman to look after this part while my husband and I work on our blogs, edits, and researches.

3:45 PM

My son returns home, so I cook Nuggets for the hungry schoolboy! 

4:30 PM

I listen to the pre-recorded lecture on my uni’s online portal to prepare for my tutorial class at 5 PM. One of the perks of online learning is that no work is left behind since I can comfortably attend classes anywhere at home, even while cooking, and while changing the bedsheets! 

Don’t judge me, though! I learn, as well. 

5:00 PM

While my husband looks after my son for his online religion lecture, I attend the online class. 

7:00 PM

I’m ready with all my plans ready to execute for what to cook! Then follows Ayaan’s homework time. 

8:30 PM

The delicious home-cooked meal by the world-class Chef is finally ready to serve! What I love about cooking is that it brings joy and happiness to people’s faces. 

9:30 PM

I tidy the Kitchen after completing the meal. Cleaning and organizing the Kitchen is the best advice I’d give to someone to eliminate the growth of pests and the formation of a weird odor at home.

10:00 PM

My study time starts from here when the boys are sleeping peacefully. Typically an hour and a half of revision each night is plenty to prepare for the finals. I like to study in chunks every day to prevent backlogs and piles of assignments, though my total study time differs during the finals and significant assignments. 

12:00 AM

In the next three hours, I spend my time doing the best-loved work of writing a blog post, editing, social promotions, etc. It’s when I speak for my heart and get going with my passion.

When I was a freshman, I had few things missing in my bag (obviously I never collected them) and ended up borrowing from here and there (Now I realize that it was embarrassing!).

Apart from the stationery items and notebooks, there are essentials that you should consider keeping in your bag all the time. To make your first day of college easier, here’s the collection of supplies you should buy to prepare and organize for the coming days:

1. A laptop

The first thing you should consider buying as a college student is a reliable Laptop. With so many choices around at different prices, it can be hard to decide the laptop to suit your needs.

3. A Planner

Back in the days when I was a freshman, I didn’t quite understand the need to manage myself. Result: poor organization, mismanagement, lower academic achievements, and overwhelming study pressure.

The student portal by my university helps to keep a record of upcoming assessments, though it didn’t help me to get organized and complete tasks on time. Then, I realized the importance of a diary, and I keep it in my backpack ever since.

4. Sticky notes

Another great tool to organize is to keep sticky notes. Organize your planner, notebooks, calendar, and folders to save time and avoid the headache of getting lost. It also helps gather ideas, brainstorm on a topic, and memorize. You can get them in Bulk ad save money from eBay:

5. Files/Folders

As you’ll print your notes more often and the tutor will hand you the printed notes, you’ll need to organize them, so you don’t lose them. I recommend keeping them in files/folders if you find trouble organizing them in your notebook. A file bag is a smart choice since you can keep notes safe and secure, and they’re super cute too! 6. USB Drive

In the initial days of my college, I was aware of the importance of a USB Flash drive in my bag. When I needed to save a couple of files from my online portal, fortunately, I had the USB drive in my bag because the printer was NOT WORKING!

You never know when you need a USB drive. I use it as a backup since I had to face a late submission penalty, three years back (Google Drive was experiencing some malfunction at the same time I was due for submission!).

7. Highlighters

Highlighters are one of the essential tools for me while note-taking during the lectures. The highlighted text within a bunch of text saves time by detecting the principle information and concepts.

With a wide array of colors, highlighter is a must for my bag as a college freshman. More often, the highlighters are readily available in the local shops, with some being the large and the other pocket-sized. Regardless of where you buy it from, you should use a safe, benign, and long-lasting highlighter.

8. Phone Charger & Earphones

I often forget my phone and laptop charger at home. It gets even more dangerous when I have to attend the classes all day long. Sadly the same happens to my earphones. But I crafted a checklist for myself to remind me what to take along (on my mobile phone).

As a freshman, you won’t hav many friends, and you may find it difficult if you don’t keep the chargers and other electronic gadgets in your bag.

9. Hand Sanitiser and Mask

Provided the seismic wave of COVID-19, ensure your safety when you begin as a college freshman. The precaution is better than cure. A disposable face mask and a tiny hand wash should always be present in your bag. And of course, following the social distancing rules is paramount.

10. Rain Coat/Umbrella

One of the essential items to keep in your bag from the first day of your university is the Rain Coat or an umbrella, especially in the monsoon season. A raincoat is your best mate if you’ve got to walk long distances from the train stations to college.

Our dominant nature is Sanguine. Depending on the situation, though, we can be Phlegmatic too. It depends on the situation. We faced several hurdles, where the life appeared pretty tough to deal with, we’ve been able to conquer the hard times with positivity and optimism.

If we discover truth, respect, honesty, and natural habitat in a planet other than Earth, then YES we’d love to. Sadly, the Earth seems quite a difficult place to live with so much environmental destruction, extreme uncertainty, and widespread hate.

3. Is there a movie that you have memorized from start to finish?

Yes, there are quite a few. Though the one that tops the ladder is ‘The Titanic’. We’ve seen this movie like 100 times, if that makes sense 😉

Again depending on the situation, we can be both. We’re quite flexible in that regard. For example, we are a leader at home, for our kids, even for each other. But becomes a follower of our parents, and again each other 🙂

5. When you have a spare hour on your hands with nothing to do, what’s the first thing you would be found doing?

Quite frankly, we never have a spare hour! Kids, work, home, blogging, and family commitments keep us on the toes mostly.

But if we get this opportunity, we’d love to write a motivational book on our incredible weight loss. If you ever find us selling an E-book, remember we had that spare moment to write one!

6. What’s your favorite holiday and why?

Favorite holiday! umm…guess what? A week in a resort. Because we had one in the GoldCoast, which left its mark, and the trip became an unforgettable memory. Whoa, man! What an exciting trip it was. We’ll write a Walk of Life post on that too. But you can read pieces of the puzzle here.

Do you often face stress and feels burned out during the exam season?

I’m Sana, a full-time student, mum of two and now a blogger. I began bachelor degree in 2012 and graduated 3 years ago. With the support of my husband and his family. I’m studying a postgraduate course. Here’s my journey as a student.

I’m often asked by Mums that how I manage the exam stress with so many responsibilities in line. A while back, I used to get sweaty palms and anxiety during the time my assessments were due. I’d had an uncontrollable feeling of being lost within my everyday routine. But soon, I realized that the exam stress was hampering my capability to study and that I have to act upon it promptly. I learned the primary reason behind my exam fear, which could relate to you too, and that was ‘not being ready for the exam.’

I know some of my friends who excel well to manage the pre-exam revision period, and it’s a piece of cake for them to pass a subject with their eyes closed. Alas for the others, the heart palpitations are a permanent part & parcel.

Since I’ve been able to manage my exam stress, I became more efficient in my study. In one of my previous posts, I’ve provided helpful tips to study while raising kids. Though managing stress levels is another crucial factor to ace in your exams, so keep reading till the end, because in this post I’ll reveal the secrets by which I achieved the highest score in my English language exam while my college exams were due.

1. Prepare beforehand

My stress levels dropped straight after I began preparing myself for the upcoming assessments. How long before the exam should you begin preparing for the exam? The answer is: Even before your first lecture, as soon as you get access to the university’s online portal. This way, you’ll feel prepared for the final examination and significant assignments.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to what I always do (and this shouldn’t take any longer than 30 minutes):

  1. Log in to the online study portal of your institution and find the subject overview document.
  2. Print out the material.
  3. Staple/pin all the pages together in order.
  4. Highlight the necessary information such as assessments, lectures, tutorials, marking guides, and contact methods with the lecturer.
  5. Draw a separate planner of your assessments’ due date and stick it on the fridge door.
  6. Keep a reminder of each assessment in your smartphone.
  7. Keep each subjects’ printed guides in a separate folder and keep them organized (and away from the kids!).

2. Know the expected topics

There was a time when my anxiety levels caused me to feel lost, and at one point, I was on the verge of breaking and tearing apart. Then, I learned the secret to get through the exam worries by observing the exam patterns in each subject. I found out that preparing for the expected topics to appear is yet another fantastic way to prevent the exam stress.

It’s not rocket science to get an understanding of the expected exam topics. Here’s what you should do:

  • Attend all the lectures, especially those right before the exam. These lectures contain critical information as most lecturers reveal crucial topics in the last lectures.
  • Sign in to your online portal and briefly read the assessments section in the subject guide.
  • Get to know the relevant topics of your course and briefly read them before your first lecture.
  • Highlight the topics related to your assessments.
  • Have a brief look at each topic even before your lecture and pen down the questions as it will help you clarify any confusion and ask questions with your lecturer.

3. Find a separate study space

I understand that it could be challenging to find an independent space at your home, especially when there are little ones around or if you live in shared accommodation. But trust me, designating a specific study corner is potentially the best step you can take to prepare yourself well for the exam and eventually, to avoid exam anxiety. You don’t have to organize a large table and a high-back chair for that. All you need is a quiet, comfortable space, and you can find this space in a little corner of your home, even by keeping the compact side table alone.

I used to study in my living room and sometimes, even in the dining area. I also prepared for the exams straight lying on the bed! But I felt both exhausted and distracted within a few minutes.

I did not have a separate study space; I looked for one at home, and I eventually found one in my Backyard, right on the outdoor table!

Here’s what you can do:

  • Look around the home for a place where your kids are least likely to enter.
  • Get help from your partner or a family member to engage kids and study in a quiet corner.
  • Give them the smartphone for some time (You shouldn’t encourage this always though sometimes, keeping them busy is necessary to fulfill other critical responsibilities).
  • Go to the local library, if there’s absolutely no space to study at home.
  • Or you can even find a quiet area in a nearby park!
  • Another great option: study at your college library before or after the lecture.

4. Schedule specific days to study

Here’s yet another way to decrease the chance of facing exam anxiety. Dedicate a particular day and time for your studies. Challenge yourself to stick with the schedule right away if you regularly get stressed out during exams because once you get into a routine of preparing, you’ll more likely feel prepared for the exam day.

I had a habit of delaying my study and prioritizing other commitments over study time. Later, I realized that I could’ve achieved better grades if I were more dedicated to the study schedule.

Here’s what you can do to hold with the study time:

  • Find out whether you’re a morning person or a night owl, since you can learn the best based on these factors.
  • Keep a reminder on your smartphone to remind you of the next day’s study schedule in advance.
  • If you choose to study in the morning, get a good 8-hour sleep the night before.
  • Begin your day with a strong cup of coffee/tea.
  • Set a number of topics you should cover on each scheduled day.

5. Take lecture notes

You’ll be the luckiest person on Earth if you adopt the healthy habit of taking notes. Since writing helps in memorizing, it’s pretty much apparent that the same applies to the lecture.

If your life was an absolute mess and you didn’t practice at all during the semesters, grab the notes you’ve made during the lecture and begin preparing instead of chucking them in the bin. You can even ask your friend to lend you its lecture notes just for exams. But you won’t stress much if you revise your own-written notes.

Here’s the guide to organize your lecture notes:

  • Do not take the dictation during a lecture. Instead, pen down the key ideas and keywords.
  • Grab a pen with the smoothest tip and a fancy notebook to write your lecture notes (It motivates me to keep fancy belongings organized, even if it’s a stationery!).
  • Get your pencil box organized and clean. Keep highlighters and use them frequently in your notes to highlight the keywords. This way, you’ll understand the crucial ideas of the lecture with minor effort during revision.
  • Use paper clips, Foldback clips, Static notes, and sticky flags to organize your lecture notes.
  • Make a table of content. It will help save you time to search for a particular topic in your notebook and ultimately reduce stress.

6. Take frequent pauses while studying

Okay, just because you’re stressed out with the assessment, doesn’t mean you stop eating or ignore your thirst! Take frequent breaks between your revisions to avoid overstressing and getting fatigued.

Since I used to pile up all my study load for the exam season, I often got so stressed in the exam season that I stopped feeling hungry! That was an awful feeling because back in the days, I could eat a horse! It affected my overall health, leading to more health problems.

My best suggestion is to keep eating well, stay hydrated, and follow these steps to avoid exam stress:

  • Go for a quick walk for 5 minutes.
  • Get Vitamin D from the Sun.
  • Look for a window at home with beautiful views of outside. It will entertain you from time to time while revising your exam notes.
  • Refresh yourself with an instant makeup and apply your favorite fragrance.
  • Quickly chat with someone, call a friend, or talk to your partner and kids about your preparation.

7. Give yourself a pat on the back

Last but not least, appreciate yourself for what you’ve gained throughout the semester. You’ve memorized, kept making your effort, and struggled day and night to ace in your exam.

On the exam day, most students experience the highest stress levels, including myself, though I saw others setting up a spa to relax (that’s a rare story!). Consider all the struggles you’ve made preparing for the ultimate day of assessment and trust yourself.

As I often belittled myself, assuming that I haven’t prepared enough made me more anxious for the final exams. But I eventually trusted myself. Here’s how:

  • Take a deep breath and calmly look if you’ve already prepared the major topics for the exam.
  • Celebrate the last day of your semester by treating yourself. Cook your favourite food, or even dine out.
  • Keep trust in yourself that you’ll attempt the best of your knowledge.
  • Know that this isn’t the end of the world. Exam is just a tiny drop of your life’s ocean. Don’t spoil your valuable time in stressing out for this miniature.

In a nutshell

Managing exam stress is all about planning, being organized, and looking after yourself. Stay focused to get prepared for the exam and keep a good faith in yourself. It’s a massive work that despite the busy schedule, you’re attending the lectures and submitting the assignments on time. It could be tough to balance between studies and other commitments, but believe me, it isn’t impossible. Even implementing a few of these in your routine ways to avoid exam worry can boost your confidence and efficiency during the exam.

Since the news announcement by the authorities in NSW (New South Wales, a state of Australia), was made for lifting holiday travel restrictions within NSW, we’re looking forward to a much-needed break. It’s relatively positive to see Australia coming back to life, and people planning their long-pending travels. As exciting for everyone else, we’re too pretty excited about our next trip, and that’s why we dedicated this week to Travelling and Tourism.

In today’s Walk of Life, we’d like to share one of our trips to Perisher Valley, Kosciuszko National Park in NSW (New South Wales, Australia). Yes, you read it correctly: One of our trips. Because we’ve been to the Snowy Mountains once every year. Why? We’ll answer you later in this post, but let’s first know a bit about Perisher Valley.


Perisher Valley is reopening for skiing and snowboarding on 24th June 2020 for NSW residents. If you’re planning for a snow-covered adventurous holiday, knock off your bucket list with this place! Perisher Ski Resort is famous for its tourism because there’s a lot to offer. From skiing and boarding to chairlift, the tourists never get disappointed with their exploration.


We previously visited Perisher Valley in 2018. Our trip was super-fun, exciting for kids, and entertaining. Our total travel time by car (from Sydney West to Perisher Valley) was 6 hours. What comes along the way is the National Capital of Australia, Canberra. We stayed there overnight before continuing our way towards the valley, since the travel was long enough to exhaust ourselves and the kids.


A single day trip to Perisher Valley is usually enough to explore the sightseeing. We packed a few clothes and snacks for the kids. The essential garments to take along were the Jackets, Sweaters, Mufflers, Gloves (the ski equipment is available on site for hire).

We woke up early, at 5 AM, and transiting towards Canberra by 7 AM. We rented a Mazda CX9, a super-smooth car, and perfect for the family since it allows ample space inside.


We saw Kangaroos, horses, and other farm animals on the way. The road trip was splendid. On the roads of Canberra, we enjoyed the nightlife and food (we’ll write a separate post on our tour to Canberra).

The next morning, we left Canberra early to arrive at the Perisher car park (As always; we continued to wake up early in the morning for a trip) to explore the place thoroughly. We arrived at 9 AM, while the kids were still asleep in the SUV!

Given the time of the year, it was quite surprising to experience relatively warmer temperatures (15 degrees if we remember it correctly). We brought sweaters and jackets with us, but eventually had to keep them in the car’s boot, since a single layer of clothes was enough!


We heard that Perisher is great for newbies for learning to ski, since the slopes across all four resorts are suitable for beginners. We traveled in July, typically considering a desirable season for skiing. We didn’t opt to learn to ski so far as there were a lot more incredible things to do beyond skiing at Perisher Valley. We enjoyed building a snowman and rode on the chairlift.


The trip to Perisher Valley is generally expensive if you choose to hire ski and snow gear. But since we didn’t ski, the entire two-day trip added up a little under $1000 for our family of four. That included meals, car rental (you can travel by your car too), chair lift tickets and accommodation (Finding how to travel with a low budget is easy, here is our post to guide you).


Traveling is a lifetime experience, and quite frankly, you’ll regret the missed opportunity to pay a visit to Perisher Valley on your tour to Australia. Our latest trip to the Perisher Valley was both exciting and thrilling. People covered in round helmets, neck warmer, and reflective goggles are also the kindest from inside. The culture and spirit of Perisher inspires us on every visit.

1. Immerse into the locals

When you experience an authentic travel experience, you’re placing a high value on your trip. Perhaps you’ve planned to visit the major attractions, it’s a good idea to meet the locals to make your trip unforgettable.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Naran Kaghan valley in Northern Pakistan, since we shed the tourist skin and immersed ourselves in the local culture during travel.

Here’s what you should do:

  • Research before you travel about local’s greeting styles, gestures, and clothing (as some cultures can be susceptible to what you wear!)
  • Learn a few words (if it’s a foreign language): Simple words such as ‘Hello,’ ‘Thank you,’ ‘Sorry,’ ‘Please,’ and ‘Goodbye.’
  • Visit historic and culturally significant places of the area to explore their values and traditions in the past.
  • Try local food to discover their taste and the spices that inspire the locals. For example, we saw the culture of street food in Murree, Pakistan.

2. Write your experiences in a journal

Writing anything can make you remember the precise details. It helps you organize your ideas, improve your writing skills, and store memories simultaneously. So, why not keep a journal of your next trip?

Journal writing was a great pastime for both of us since we waited 6 hours at the airport for our flight from Gold Coast to Sydney. Later, the journal inspired us to start this blog! (We’ll share each tour in ‘Walk of life‘ posts).

You can use travel apps to create a digital travel journal. Or keep it hand-written, just like us. In a travel journal, you can include:

  • Maps
  • Itinerary
  • Unique interaction with the locals
  • Food culture
  • Photos
  • Unique jewelery, coins, etc

3. Be adventurous

Do you want to create an unforgettable memory without getting out of your comfort zone? If your answer is ‘yes’, then most likely you’ll miss it. Because when you experience something special and unknown to you, you’re learning the uncertainty of life.

An adventure trip doesn’t have to be fearful, though something you’ve never experienced or something that generates adrenaline.

Our Gold Coast trip was quite courageous since we took thrill rides in the Movie World (we both have always scared with the roller coasters and never experienced one before this trip). Quite frankly, we were terrified at the beginning, though later, we couldn’t keep ourselves from taking one ride after another! (and that made our trip to Gold Coast most memorable).

4. Collect coins and souvenirs

Foreign coin collecting has been a historic custom for decades. And yet, collecting souvenirs is as appealing for creating a long-term memory too!

Collecting items that represent your travels and adventures is the best part of your trip. You can find inexpensive souvenirs anywhere in the local tourist area.

Some forms of souvenirs you can find at local shops are:

  • Magazines in foreign language
  • Postcards
  • Stickers
  • Fridge Magnets
  • Key Chains
  • Shirts and Hats

Once you have a collection of souvenirs upon returning from your trip, organize them in your travel journal for your memory and reveal to your friends.

5. Keep the trip short and slow

As a traveler, it’s unnecessary to visit many cities all at once because you’ll end up tiring and stressing yourself for each visit.

Slow and short trip can allow you to understand the culture, live each moment of your journey at fullest, and save money. When traveling with kids, you should always plan your travel slow due to the extent of uncertainty in their routine.
